Proposal Description
This presentation focuses on the narratives told by Cuban Jews (Jewbans) to their children and grandchildren about their lives, their diaspora, their challenges and their successes. Based on interviews with three generations of Jewbans--those that left after Fidel Castro came to power, their children born in the US, and their grandchildren also born in the US--the presentation will describe the ways their narratives have shaped Jewbans identities and have impacted South Florida economically, socially, and politically. Further, the presentation will integrate historical data to show ways that Jewbans' narratives may exclude important factors that led to their successes.
