Description
Individuals’ perceptions and values are influenced by societal events andlife experiences. Each generational cohort has a unique set of experiences that impact their performance and expectations. Experts have studied how various generations can successfully work in the same environment and a great deal of research has been aimed at working with millennial individuals in various settings. They are often described as exhibiting over-confidence; knowing more than their supervisors; being impatient; and have unrealistic expectations, leading to misconceptions and misunderstandings. In a fieldwork setting, learning to value the differences and recognize the assets that each generational cohort possesses will aid in a more fluid working exchange. Providing an explanation and better comprehension of what the millennial students’ expectations are in a teaching/learning environment will assistfieldwork educators in understanding the perception of the millennial generation. This course will outline the characteristics of each generational cohort, and identify various strategies and techniques that can be utilized for promoting a more cohesive working relationship across generations in a fieldwork setting.
