Abstract
This review provides a comprehensive exploration of the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing telehealth within various subspecialties of internal medicine. The focus is on enhancing patient care, addressing healthcare challenges, and mitigating professional burnout through the real-time, data-driven insights offered by AI. The integration of AI in telehealth is examined across diverse medical fields such as cardiology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, endocrinology, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology, and hematology-oncology. The research methodology employs a systematic literature review and analysis approach, utilizing academic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and IEEE Xplore to identify relevant literature up to July 2023. Inclusion criteria encompass studies discussing AI integration in telehealth across internal medicine subspecialties, while exclusion criteria filter out literature solely focusing on telehealth without AI integration. The paper elaborates on the applications of AI in each subspecialty, highlighting its potential to improve diagnostics, decision support, treatment, monitoring, and personalized medicine. Key findings include AI's ability to detect abnormal heart rhythms in cardiology, automate diagnosis in pulmonary medicine, predict disease activity in gastroenterology, manage chronic diseases in endocrinology, tailor care for geriatric patients, enhance renal care in nephrology, aid in the diagnosis of neurological disorders, and optimize cancer care in hematology-oncology. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, this paper underscores the need for responsible and compassionate integration of AI in telehealth to ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining ethical standards.
