Short Description
Faculty development is a problem as old as universities, and the older the university the older the problem. At the University of Mississippi the role of the Instructional Designer and Training Specialist has emerged as one of the cornerstones of plans to support faculty not only in their classrooms but as they move to increase their online presence.
Abstract
Faculty development is increasingly important as colleges and universities transition from traditional instructional models to approaches that involve instructional technology and that promote online learning. The process used by Instructional Designers and Training Specialists who are assisting faculty as they consider online instruction will be explained in this concurrent session—a process set against the backdrop of faculty development at the University of Mississippi.
Five key ideas will be presented:
- Meeting faculty where they are instead of where you may want them to go.
- Pedagogy versus tools
- Faculty development approaches
- Evaluating yourself, the Instructional Designer (and Training Specialist).
- Setting a vision and goals for your team and yourself as an Instructional Designer (and Training Specialist).
