Abstract
Do you think digital badges are the online equivalent of “stickers?” Think again! Digital badges within an online community, and public display, like Mozilla’s Open Badges (OBI) offer an exciting and powerful medium for learner engagement. In this session, participants will explore the fundamentals of badge design. (Spoiler Alert: The technical part can be done in only 2 minutes!) We will also discuss how badges benefit learners, both within an online course, and beyond.

Kathleen McPherson is an Instructional Designer with FAU’s Center for eLearning. Kathy’s passion for eLearning stems from her experience as a high school ESOL teacher. She is excited to be on the cutting edge of this field, which provides vast educational opportunities for learners of every age and circumstance.
