Abstract

During this presentation, we will discuss recent phenomenological study on experiences of female sex trafficking survivors. Human sex trafficking survivors undergo numerous traumatic events that greatly impact their lives. Given the prevalence and traumatic nature of the sex trafficking industry, there is a need to raise greater awareness of victims' experiences. The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of 15 female survivors of sex trafficking who shared their stories on equalitynow.org. The researchers aimed to answer the following questions in this study: 1.) What are the experiences of female survivors of human sex trafficking in the industry? and 2.) How do survivors make sense of those experiences? In this presentation we will address findings of our study and our research experience.
