Abstract
Serving for the first time as a doctoral teaching assistant in a newly formed arts-based research course, I experienced a range of emotions and experiences, both positive and negative.Guided by crystallization methodology, I further reflected on my experiences by practicing Found Poetry and “converting” data from weekly reflections and observational notes completed during the course semester into a series of Haiku (Japanese-tradition poems). I also represented my data dimensionally through bonsai, the practice of cultivating small trees in pots.Findings included gaining experience with designing a course, including creating syllabi, experiencing pressures of presenting and modeling material, and feeling perceived jealously and resentment from classmates. I also discuss the inter-play between the two forms of data analysis and my efforts at crystallization.
