Description

Mr. Andre Kerr is a Certified Physician Assistant who has practiced in inpatient Vascular surgery since earning his graduate degree in December 2017 and achieving national certification in early 2018. Mr. Kerr received a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Florida International University (FIU) in Miami Fl, a BSc in Biological Sciences from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in 2010, and an Associate of Science from Northern Caribbean University in 1998, in his island home of Jamaica. In Jamaica, he taught high school level information technology from 1998-2000, then moved on to the tertiary level, working his way up to manager of the IT department at the University College of the Caribbean, (UCC), a private university in Jamaica, where he worked from 2000 to 2005. He and his wife, then moved to the US permanently.

Soon after settling in Florida, as his first step to becoming a PA, Andre enrolled in the biology program at NSU spanning 2006 to 2010. He also worked as Teacher’s Assistant and Laboratory Assistant within the biology department at NSU during his time as a student. After graduating NSU in 2010, Andre accepted a position as a Histotechnologist with Quest Diagnostics in Pompano Beach Fl. His talent in IT, computers, and lifelong appreciation for natural and medical sciences led to his recruitment and to a post at Agilent Technologies where he worked as biomedical field service engineer from 2012-2015.

Becoming a PA was a career change for Andre, as helping people through medical science has always been his first love. This love, combined with his natural talent for all things technological and digital, led him to enroll in FIU’s inaugural class of Physician Assistant studies in 2015. While studying to become a PA, Andre stayed active in the community through class leadership as the Physician Assistant Student Organization’s (PASO), external relations officer for his cohort. He spearheaded numerous community outreach programs involving students and faculty of FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program. He has organized, presentations, mentorships, health fairs and Pre-PA workshops and related community activities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties as a student and he continues to do so as a PA.

Mr. Kerr’s work in vascular surgery has made him even more aware of what he’s seen for many years; the great need for preventative medicine, support, and care of people living in an era where the speed and demands of a modern lifestyle often negatively impacts health and wellness, particularly in the underserved communities. This is his current and future focus as he now transitions to primary care medicine in the Broward community.
