Proposal Description

The marginalisation of minority communities in Sri Lanka may be understood through the lens of intercultural discordance. Within this discordant space human rights in both their manner of interpretation and application converge with local politics and cultural values in a discordant manner. This study argues that marginalised communities in Sri Lanka must mediate this intercultural convergent zone to translate human rights into the freedoms and rights they seek and, participate meaningfully in the democratic processes of the country.
