Factors that Lead Occupational Therapists to Enter Private Practice: A Mixed-Methods Design
This study was a mixed methods pilot to determine the factors that influence OT practitioners to go into private practice.
Comments
Method: OT practitioners were recruited online, through AOTA SIS forums, and 24 private contacts. 46 participants completed a 20-question survey and 6 completed a semi- structured interview.
Results: 5 profiles were created through a rotated component matrix of the quantitative data. Analysis of practice priorities demonstrated that individuals with successful private practices possess specific internal characteristics.
Conclusion: This study demonstrates that individuals pursue private practice for a multiplicity of reasons that can be explored further in future research.
