Description
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine and understand whether psychosocial coursework and clinical experience during graduate school would affect health care students' perceptions about working with people with mental illness.
Method: Data was collected through survey method from different health care professions graduate programs at a university in Florida.
Results: Findings indicated that 61% of survey participants who had completed coursework related to mental health had a positive perception of individuals with mental illness.
Conclusion: It is recommended that students in healthcare professions be exposed to mental health clients and settings prior to graduating into the work force
