This pilot study investigates the correlation of individual tests of the Screening Assessment of Sensory Integration (SASI) along with total scores of the SASI. Additionally, comparative measures were used with qualitative reports from the pilot study examiners (n = 3) who reported on the differences in experience during testing for different participant groups/diagnoses. An additional comparison of performance scores on 28 subtests of the SASI was performed between participants with ASD who were separated into age groups: age 6 (n=8), age 7 (n=5) finding only one significant difference throughout. The SASI pilot study consisted of 27 participants, ages 4.0 to 7.11 including typical children and those with the diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and sensory processing disorder (SPD). Based on existing sensory integration (SI) literature, two correlational analyses were completed and showed strong correlation between praxis and tactile discrimination/somatosensory test items (r = .757) as well as between bilateral control and praxis (r = .610). This pilot study reveals that further testing is needed in order to ensure the accuracy of these findings for the SASI, but correlational data represents relative support of the SASI for occupational therapy use in SI.
