Abstract

Modern learners are curious, sociable, and technologically proficient. They are active learners, constantly craving new knowledge and skills. Keeping them engaged in their learning requires instructors to incorporate a variety of creative learning methods. The process of visual storytelling and communicating through photographs, as it promotes self-expression, exploration, and reflection, can offer innovative learning methods for education (including in classrooms). In this presentation, participants will explore creative learning methods to engage modern learners using visual storytelling and communicating through photographs. Creative educational activities and engagement strategies will be discussed (such as photo walks to develop critical thinking skills, expressing visual thanks to establish meaningful connections, and capturing mindful moments to reduce stress). Encouraging learners to narrate their unique visual stories to their peers and be attentive when their peers share their stories is likely to create a sense of connection, foster curiosity, and increase engagement. With this experiential process and exchange, learners have the opportunity to collaboratively co-create new stories and perspectives that are empowering, energizing, and enriching (personally and professionally, for the present and future successes, including in the context of their health and wellness).
