Description

The goal of our workshop is to encourage educators to become more familiar with various personality types among individuals. Creating a learner centered environment is an integral component of education and can be the key to academic and ultimately success of our students. As part of their training, we expect them to be able to work in groups. However, personality clashes often undermine the collegial atmosphere. To be effective facilitators, we must appreciate and evaluate different personality types. This workshop is designed to introduce our audience to the concept of positive psychology with emphasis on different personality types and their strengths. During our session, each participant will take a personal preference profile test, which is composed of a short, eight-question survey, available at www.kingdomality.com. This assessment is associated with a fable that illustrates the beauty of interpersonal relationships and highlights specific characteristics of twelve characters: Merchant, Engineer-Builder, Scientist, Doctor, Shepherd, White Knight, Dreamer-Minstrel, Benevolent Ruler, Bishop, Discover, Prime Minister and Black Knight. To discuss various personality types, we created animal character portraits, which visually represent their distinctive qualities. Each individual has a distinct role in “the kingdom” because of their unique perspective on life and interactions with others. To truly embrace diversity, we must appreciate and respect cultural differences and foster an atmosphere of inclusivity in our classroom. The foundation for successful interactions and creating a learner centered environment is Emotional Intelligence which includes self-awareness, self-management and social awareness.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  1. define positive psychology and relate it to creating a learner centered environment.
  2. identify their own individual strengths.
  3. discuss how to implement their personal strengths for productive teamwork.
  4. identify their potential role in the kingdom of academia.
  5. discuss how learning about yourself and others can create a diverse, inclusive atmosphere.
