Abstract
Bucks County Community College (BCCC) has been without a Chief Student Personnel Officer since 1972. The different student personnel organization structures that have been used since 1968 are reviewed in this paper. Since 1972, student services have lacked direction, a philosophy, a rationale of operation, an overall set of goals and objectives and cohesion. The purpose of the writes was to propose a student personnel organizational structure that will serve to motivate the personnel to develop philosophy, rationale, goals and objectives which in turn will lead to cohesion and directional planning. The assumption was that a structure different from those in use or previously used will serve to accomplish the purpose stated. To obtain the information used will serve to accomplish the purpose stated. To obtain the information needed, the literature was reviewed, pertinent BCCC memoranda and reports and the results of the 1984 Deegan Workshop were read, along with the Middle States Association recommendations of 1969, 1973, and 1982. The primary findings was what student personnel services will be most effective and efficient if the organization is such that all segments of student personnel report to a Chief Student Personnel Officer. Recommendations made were that; a CSPO be appointed the parameters for student service at BCCC be defined an evaluation program be planned and implemented the CSPO define staff and line relationships.
