Abstract
This practicum was designed to improve the monitoring and maintenance of hearing aids and auditory trainers for preschool and school age deaf and hearing impaired children through inservice training. The goal of this practicum was to identity and reduce the number of preschool and school age deaf and hearing impaired students who have been provided with hearing aids or auditory trainers and may not be maximizing their potential in their educational placement because their hearing aids or auditory trainers are malfunctioning or nonfunctioning.
The writer conducted inservice training programs designed to improve the skills of speech pathologists, teachers, parents and students on the procedures for monitoring and maintenance of hearing aids and auditory trainers. The writer provided training on the types and degrees of hearing loss and how it affects a child's ability to communicate, operation of hearing aids and auditory trainers; procedures and techniques used in the application of materials and equipment utilized In monitoring and maintenance of hearing aids and auditory trainers and identification of malfunctioning and nonfunctioning hearing aids or auditory trainers.
An analysis of the goal and all objectives revealed mastery by all participants in the inservice training program. The identification and reduction in the number of preschool and school age deaf and hearing impaired students who had malfunctioning or nonfunctioning hearing aids or auditory trainers and who were not maximizing their potential in their educational placement was achieved.
