Abstract

This MARP was an attempt to expand the provision of special education and related services to students with moderate to severe disabilities. Prior to this practicum, this services were provided exclusively at Calvert Country School, a segregated special education facility.

The author of this practicum was appointed as Principal of Calvert Country in August, 1984. At that time, all neighboring counties were providing programs for students in the moderate to severe range or disability under the same model. However, two of the three counties initiated integration projects which resulted in the movement of students previously served in special centers to self-contained classes in general education schools.

A major objective of this practicum was to expand options to parents/guardians of students presently served at Calvert Country School. As a result of this MARP, the continuum of alternative special education placements in the Calven County Public Schools was expanded to include the provision of Level V special education in general education schools.
