Short Description
In 2012, UCF created the Chuck D. Dziuban Award for Excellence in Online Teaching, an award presented to one faculty’s outstanding online course design. Implementation of the Quality and High Quality Course Design Reviews and the state’s related strategic plan required that the Dziuban Award be updated to focus specifically on the faculty’s teaching abilities. This session focuses on the changes made to the Dziuban Award, resources created to support the new award format, along with changes to the application process.
Abstract
In 2012, UCF created the Chuck D. Dziuban Award for Excellence in Online Teaching. This award was given to one faculty’s outstanding online course design. However during the past year, online course design for Quality and High Quality Review processes were piloted and implemented at the University of Central Florida. These quality reviews meant that the Dziuban Award had to be updated to specifically focus on the faculty’s teaching abilities instead of only focusing on online course design. These updates now align with the state’s strategic plan. This session focuses on the changes that were made to the Dziuban Award applications, how updates to the award were decided, why the updates were necessary, the Dziuban Award Workshop award support series that was created by the Dziuban Award faculty committee members, along with changes to the rubrics that were necessary to meet the new criteria required for this updated award. Faculty must have received Quality and then High Quality (or in the process of a High Quality review) designations prior to submitting for the award. Faculty Committee Members award concerns will be discussed as well.
