Abstract

I explore in this paper the relationality behind qualitative research practice. Specifically, I wonder how relational the researcher-researched relationship is. There is a strong sense in which instrumentality dominates this relationship. Instrumentality, however, is a major barrier to strong relationality and relational depth, resulting in stagnancy. This paper, therefore, reconsiders the researcher-researched relationship by asking the question: what form of relationship has highest value?

Reconsidering the Researcher-Researched Relationship
