Abstract

Based on 20 in-depth interviews with migrant educators employed in Florida, this study explores the hardships experienced by migrant students and their related educational challenges. The migrant students’ hardships and their impact on academic performance are analyzed using Bourdieu’s (1986) theory of capital. The data reveal five hardships negatively impacting migrant students’ education: cultural barriers, family issues, material needs, migratory lifestyle, and legal status.
