Sam Ladner is a sociologist specializing in the social aspects of technological change. Primarily an ethnographer, Sam has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Time & Society and The Canadian Journal of Communication. While serving as Postdoctoral Fellow at Ryerson University's School of Information Technology Management, she founded and ran her own ethnography research firm, Copernicus Consulting. With Copernicus, Sam consulted corporations on digital and industrial product design, organizational change, and consumer culture. In 2012, she joined Microsoft to research the future of productivity. Her book Practical Ethnography: A Guide to Doing Ethnography in The Private Sector (http://practicalethnography.com) will be published in 2013 by Left Coast Press. She holds a PhD in Sociology from York University and lives in Seattle with her husband and tabby cat.
