Abstract
The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation (Levan Center) is a public-private partnership between Nova Southeastern University (applicant organization) and Broward County, aimed at supporting entrepreneurs throughout their Founder’s Journey and providing access to emerging technologies. The Levan Center is proposing to develop a Mobile Innovation Unit (Mobile Unit) to increase awareness and provide training on emerging technologies to underserved communities in South Florida. The Mobile Unit will focus on spatial computing, artificial intelligence/machine learning, robotics, and experiential human-focused technologies, offering at least four training programs per year to at least 60 participants. The Mobile Unit will visit at least three underserved communities each month and aims to improve diversity and inclusivity within the tech industry by having at least 50% of participants identifying as members of underserved communities. The lack of access to emerging technologies and awareness of career opportunities within these fields lead to a lack of diversity in the industry, which is detrimental to the industry’s growth. The Levan Center Mobile Innovation Unit addresses this issue by providing opportunities for experiential, hands-on learning to those who lack access to emerging technologies and training. Through this initiative, the Levan Center aims to improve the skilled and educated workforce in South Florida and support the growth of the high-tech sector.
