Executive Summary
In this strategic research project, I examined organizational factors that influence teacher retention and identified evidence-based strategies to strengthen workforce stability in a school setting. The organization's vision, mission, and values were examined as were leadership practices and organizational culture and their contribution to teacher satisfaction and long-term commitment. I explored challenges including burnout, limited administrative support, inconsistent coaching, insufficient mentoring opportunities, and the absence of systematic modeling of effective instructional and leadership practices. An assessment of internal strengths and weaknesses, along with external opportunities and threats, was conducted to identify the factors most affecting teacher retention. The findings provide a framework for improving organizational effectiveness while fostering a positive work environment that encourages professional growth and sustained teacher engagement.
Implementing a structured leadership mentoring program supported by continuous coaching and instructional modeling offers the greatest potential for reducing teacher burnout, increasing confidence among new and experienced educators, and strengthening organizational support systems. Similarly, leadership practices aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values promote collaboration, trust, and professional commitment, ultimately improving teacher satisfaction and retention. Based on these findings, an action plan was developed with measurable goals, implementation timelines, responsible stakeholders, and required resources to ensure successful execution.
Sustainable teacher retention requires intentional leadership, strategic planning, and ongoing investment in employee development through coaching, mentoring, and supportive organizational practices. Recommendations include establishing formal mentoring programs, providing continuous professional learning for leaders, strengthening organizational support systems, and regularly evaluating retention initiatives to ensure continuous improvement. By implementing these recommendations, schools can reduce teacher turnover, improve organizational performance, and create learning environments where educators and students are positioned for long-term success.
