Executive Summary

A Strategic Approach to the Amelioration of Internal Communication Using Artificial Intelligence. Wesley Hartpence, 2025: Strategic Research Project, Nova Southeastern University, Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. Keywords: internal communication, artificial intelligence, organizational communication, and large multinational company.

This strategic research project utilizes mixed-methods research, including existing literature to support strategic decision-making in conjunction with quantitative analysis tools designed to provide a numerical foundation in the decision-making process. This project was designed to identify an area for improvement in a large multinational organization and develop a corresponding strategy and implementation plan to improve the organization in this area. A strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis was performed in conjunction with internal factor and external factor analyses, leading to identifying an organizational weakness of internal communication as a primary problem to address. Additional analysis was conducted based on existing academic research to develop a strategy to implement.

The initial phase of this project involved identifying 10 factors for each domain of a SWOT analysis and using these factors alongside appropriate weighting values to develop a quantitative analysis as a structured approach to selecting a strategic factor and corresponding problem. The factor and corresponding problem selected was the organization’s internal communication. A literature review was conducted into this problem to assist in developing potential solutions and strategies the organization could implement, namely further development of the organization’s internal generative artificial intelligence tool and implementing a tailored version of a commercially available artificial intelligence tool. A Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) was developed to compare these two strategies with respect to the 40 factors and weights from the internal factors and external factors analyses and assigned strategic attractiveness scores. The results of the QSPM indicated proceeding with the strategy related to the commercially available artificial intelligence tool. Finally, an action plan was developed to implement the selected strategy for improving organizational internal communication. Beyond the proposed implementation, additional recommendations include using knowledge gained from the implementation as a springboard to clearly identify additional opportunities for utilizing the artificial intelligence tool in relevant business processes, and more specifically leveraging system dynamics modeling to identify the highest impact processes and areas for expanded use of artificial intelligence.
