Keywords: antifragility, correctional facility, electronic monitoring, high staff turnover, overcrowding, recidivism
This strategic research project (SRP) will analyze and discuss several factors relating to the rehabilitation department. This department plays a central role in the criminal justice delivery system across South Florida, especially for those incarcerated in Miami-Dade County. The SRP will focus on the rehabilitation department’s history, organizational structure, mission, and operational issues. I will also discuss my position in the organization and the duties performed while conducting this SRP.
The specific objectives of the SRP include a thorough assessment of the rehabilitation department, covering all of its aspects and including a critical strengths-weaknesses opportunities-threats analysis. The SRP will also examine the department’s sustainability agenda and how it will address its resource use. Through a detailed analysis of these aspects, this SRP will assist in understanding the factors entailing the operation of corrections facilities and, more so, the position of the rehabilitation department in the overall criminal justice network.
