Executive Summary
This strategic research project was designed to provide South Ocean Technical College (a pseudonym), a large technical college in South Florida, with a research-based action plan to address the ineffective preparation teachers have with technology and is use. The creation of a professional development framework towards preparing teachers for instructional technology use, which aligns with the organization’s mission to promote excellence in academic, career, and technical studies so students become prepared to be competitive in a global workforce, will bridge the technology preparedness gap and better help teachers and students to adjust to future technological changes.
During the strategic research project, an evaluation of both internal and external factors of the organization was completed by conducting a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis. This brought various problems to the forefront and was crucial in specifying the problem and directed the researcher towards discovering effective solutions. Four solutions were then identified. Using current and comprehensive scholarly literature, each solution was considered in light of the characteristics and needs of the organization. The selected solution of creating a professional development framework received the highest total attractiveness score. To solve the problem by developing a professional development framework, a four-step action plan was created. The plan included the following steps: (a) design the framework, (b) implement and evaluate use of the framework, (c) monitor and support employees, and (d) celebrate achievement. The strategic research project process allowed for an in-depth review of the literature; the researcher will disseminate the findings of this research to the leaders of the target organization.
