Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop an adapted yoga program for chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) and to plan for the implementation and evaluation at the Community Wellness Center of the Palm Beaches. The problem is that a significant number of men a re suffering from CPPS.
Five research questions were addressed. What are the appropriate contents of an adapted yoga program for relief of symptoms associated with CPPS? What is the appropriate design? What are effective methods to raise awareness? How should the proposed program be implemented? What are the appropriate criteria for an evaluation of the proposed program?
This study used development problem-solving methodology in designing appropriate instruction, public awareness, and delivery methods. Next, evaluation problem-solving methodology addressed the plans for measuring the program's effectiveness.
Ten procedures addressed the research questions. A literature review was conducted. Upon selection the formative committee's expertise assisted in establishing the goals, objectives, criteria and format. A summative committee was selected to validate the aforementioned components. The program was submitted to the directors of the Center.
The plan for implementation was addressed. The formative committee established the criteria. The summative committee validated the plan. Implementation plan included suggesting appropriate advertising with specifics on possible health benefits. Next, the formative committee established and summative committee validated the evaluation strategy.
Recommendations included inquires toward establishing an evidence-based research study for the CPPS program. Recommendation for further research suggested planning studies on chronic health care problems that apply the adapted yoga methodology.
