Abstract
Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County has conducted a three year diploma program in nursing which also awards an Associate in Science degree from Camden County College. Upon completion of this nursing program students have been encouraged by faculty to pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing. The students of Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County had not been surveyed regarding their interest in obtaining further education. Also, their interest in continuing this education in nursing has not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to obtain a Determination of Student Interest in Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree. A survey instrument was developed to gather information on student interest in obtaining a baccalaureate degree. Validity was determined through a critique by directors from two similar schools of nursing. Reliability was determined by administering the instrument to twenty four recent graduates of Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County. Minor changes were made as a result of these test results. The survey instrument was administered to the two hundred students enrolled at Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County for the Spring semester. One hundred ninety survey were returned and analyzed. The results of this survey indicated that the students of Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County agree that a baccalaureate degree in nursing will be important to their future. The majority also plan to pursue such a degree. Most said that they would enroll in such a program of Helene Fuld School of Nursing would develop an articulated program with a baccalaureate institution for awarding such a degree. It is recommended that Helene Fuld School of Nursing in Camden County pursue such an arrangement with local baccalaureate programs.
