Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore how healthcare leaders on the east coast United States described the role of implementing, the outer setting, inner setting, individual characteristics, and the process when implementing telehealth in a patient-centered care environment in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The study used a qualitative method with a descriptive design to capture the descriptions of the participant’s experience during the implementation of telehealth in a patient centered care environment in different health care facilities in east coast of the United States. Due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the interview sessions and the two focus group took place through 45-120-minute, semi-structured, open-ended, zoom interviews, and a 45-minute, focus group where participants discussed their views and their experiences.

The target population was healthcare leaders who had implemented telehealth in a patient-centered care environment on the east coast of the United States. The selection of the participants was accomplished through social media and by co-workers affiliation.

The findings in this research study exposed the advantage of implementation practices that can assess the impact of a networking strategy to strengthen the organization knowledge and experience, the need to create an environment that is receptive, the commitment of individuals as a crucial aspect of success, and planning as a factor for simplifying execution.

The potential limitations of this study are the methods used to select participants, which deliberately excluded other participants. Virtual data collection was also a limitation; because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two data collection sources were completed through Zoom. Future research should explore the experiences of the participants through face-to-face contact.
