Abstract
Esta disertación aplicada se focalizó en la carencia de mecanismos de identificación de las habilidades y conocimientos básicos necesarios de los ingresantes, para cursar estudios superiores en la Universidad Católica Nordestana (UCNE). El propósito de la intervención fue dotar al Departamento de Admisiones de la UCNE de un sistema de pruebas de admisión reglamentado y procedimental que permitiera conocer las debilidades académicas de los candidatos a nuevo ingreso y facilitara la selección de los mismos a los diferentes programas de estudio que se imparten en la institución.
Se plantearon las siguientes preguntas de investigación: (a) ¿cuáles criterios deberán tomarse en cuenta para la elaboración de una prueba de admisiones en la UCNE?, (b) ¿cuáles tipos de pruebas de admisión existen?, (c)¿Cómo se elabora una prueba de admisiones?, (d) ¿Cómo se aplica una prueba de admisiones?, (e) ¿cuáles parámetros e indicadores deben tomarse en cuenta para determinar los estudiantes que estarían aptos para cursar estudios superiores en la UCNE?, y (f) ¿qué implicaciones académicas posteriores tendría la aplicación de una prueba de admisiones en la UCNE?
El diseño, de tipo descriptivo, tuvo una muestra de 18 docentes. Se aplicó un cuestionario, se realizaron entrevistas, reuniones y un taller de trabajo para elaborar los ítemes de la prueba. Se desarrolló una plataforma informática para el sistema de la Prueba de Admisión en la UCNE y se crearon manuales de políticas y procedimientos, así como la realización de un entrenamiento del personal que administrará el sistema.
Como resultado se obtuvo un sistema de prueba de admisión que mide las áreas de aptitud verbal, aptitud matemática, razonamiento analítico, cultura general e inglés. Dicho sistema cuenta con un banco de ítemes de selección múltiple compuesto por 561 reactivos. Se obtuvo también un sistema automatizado para generar las pruebas y otro para corregirlas.
This applied dissertation focused on the lack of mechanisms for identifying the basic skills and knowledge required of incoming students to pursue higher education at Universidad Católica Nordestana (UCNE). The purpose of the intervention was to provide UCNE’s Admissions Department with a regulated and procedural admission testing system that would make it possible to identify the academic weaknesses of new applicants and facilitate their selection into the various academic programs offered by the institution.
The following research questions were posed:
(a) What criteria should be considered in the development of an admissions test at UCNE?
(b) What types of admissions tests exist?
(c) How is an admissions test developed?
(d) How is an admissions test administered?
(e) What parameters and indicators should be considered to determine which students would be qualified to pursue higher education at UCNE?
(f) What subsequent academic implications would the implementation of an admissions test at UCNE have?
The descriptive research design included a sample of 18 faculty members. A questionnaire was administered, and interviews, meetings, and a workshop were conducted to develop the test items. A computerized platform for the UCNE Admission Test system was developed, along with policy and procedure manuals, and training was provided for the personnel who would administer the system.
As a result, an admission testing system was produced that measures verbal aptitude, mathematical aptitude, analytical reasoning, general knowledge, and English. This system includes a multiple-choice item bank consisting of 561 items. Automated systems were also developed to generate the tests and to score them.
