Description

Creating an Institutional Repository from scratch creates a multitude of both opportunities and pitfalls in establishment of workflow, content creation, outreach and marketing policies, and stakeholder support. Nova Southeastern University’s Digital Commons based repository, NSUWorks, completed its first year in February 2015. During this session, the triumphs and tribulations of the first year will be discussed, along with future plans in order to give attendees a glimpse into one particular IR experience. Archival collection digitization, outreach/marketing, journal/book publishing, reporting tools, and collection development will also be covered.

Michele Gibney, Archives and Digital Librarian II in charge of NSUWorks, has been working with institutional repositories for over two years. She has presented on Special Collections in repositories for bepress, the creator of Digital Commons, and on journal management and digitizing archival photographs at the first annual Digital Commons Southeast User Group Meeting. She has also presented on NSUWorks on numerous occasions to faculty, staff and students at Nova Southeastern University.

Keri Baker, Oceanography Library Reference Librarian I, has managed the Oceanographic Center section of NSUWorks for over a year: uploading content, performing faculty and student outreach including presentations and training sessions. Her focus for the Oceanographic Center has been faculty scholarship, alternative uses for the repository, and big data projects. She has also presented on NSUWorks at FACRL 2014 and at IAMSLIC 2014.

Jaime Goldman, Oceanography Library Reference Librarian II, was part of the initial committee that designed and set up the NSUWorks IR and served as initial liaison to the Oceanographic Center faculty and researchers. She coordinated the creation of the 10 NSU ProQuest ETD portals for dissertation and thesis submission and transfers for upload into NSUWorks. She serves as the committee chair for the NSU ETD User Group and now manages the NSU ProQuest portals. She has presented on the management of ETD’s in ProQuest and in an IR at SAIL, a regional group of International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC).
