Description
Cleveland Clinic Florida has a strong commitment to medical education and research. The Summer Scholar Program is geared towards high school seniors and college pre-‐med students, which provides exposure to the practice of medicine in both the hospital and clinic settings. Over the course of six weeks, students are exposed to many clinical areas including Internal Medicine, Radiology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and many other sub-‐specialties. Students are assigned a faculty mentor in a specific specialty that they will shadow for the entire length of the program. They will have the opportunity to explore various disciplines in medicine through a lecture series and clinical rotations, and will have a chance to ask questions and explore different work environments. At the weekly workshops, students learn everything from MCAT tips, advice on applying for medical school, taking vital signs, CPR, and intubation. The experience culminates with student case presentations from each of the summer sessions, based on a particular patient, condition, etc. encountered during the program.
