Abstract

This study will examine the lived experiences and ensuing feelings of approximately five to ten individuals in which one or both partners view porn. Anonymous data in the form of individual or couple experiences of porn usage in relationships will be obtained and analyzed using Giorgio’s phenomenological data analysis based on hermeneutics to reveal individual meaning units and, consequently, reveal the larger categories inherent in the individuals stories as a way of integrating the text. Approximately five to ten stories will be read multiple times by the principal investigator, followed by the faculty supervisor. General themes will be exposed. A paper presentation of the qualitative research methodology and findings will be provided to reveal the experiences of individuals in relationships on porn usage. Themes will be extracted to provide therapists with information regarding dilemmas clients may present in therapy when porn is a reported source of distress. The purpose of this study is to aid in better conceptualizing the effects of porn usage on relationships and to generate effective intervention strategies.
