Abstract

Florida’s 3rd grade retention policy has emotional effects on students and parents. This was a qualitative research study using the phenomenological approach. The study revealed that students and parents experience emotional stress when retained. There is an implication for further study of Florida’s retention policy for 3rd graders. This study reveals that retention does cause emotional distress on retained students and their parents. Investigator interviewed parents and their children.
