Abstract

Using constructivist grounded theory as a methodological frame, participants aged 15-22, analyzed transcript data of 6 in-depth interviews which explored HIV disclosure among HIV positive youth. After months of group coding and theory building, youth researchers made a conceptual leap from notions of disclosure tied to contagion, to an understanding of disclosure as a multidimensional process. Qualitative data analysis became a vehicle for consciousness- raising and a catalyst for social action.
