Abstract
Women have been denied equality, especially with respect to their male counterparts. Feminism is the theory that seeks to explain this by the norms, beliefs, and societal pressure by which women have been excluded. One predominant realm in which women have been excluded is politics. Although there has been a rise in female politicians across the world, they continue to face the same stereotypes as before. Thus, this study delves into the implications of having more female leaders, looking more specifically at liberal feminist international relations theory. By reviewing literature, this study finds that female leaders impact a variety of issues such as the health and safety, economy, and democratic standing of a country. When looking specifically at the health and safety aspect, me through various case studies, this paper finds that women in power had an impact on COVID-19. The purpose of this research was to determine whether the quantity of female leaders in the national level lower legislature of a country, had a positive effect on that country’s national health and safety. A regression model was used to show the correlation between women in the national legislature in countries across the world and each country’s health and safety, measured by COVID-19 deaths per million people. The results show that there is an insignificant relationship between the proportion of women in the national legislature of a country, and the health and safety of a country.
