Abstract
Parents of children with developmental disabilities often face isolation, stress, and burnout, given the high level of care involved (Millstein et al., 2020). The weekly activities include therapies, doctor appointments, and extracurricular programs, which leave little to no time for parents to engage in wellness and self-care activities. Limited research has been found regarding developmental disabilities and self-care, but there is a gap in the research focusing on mindfulness and its impact on parents of children with developmental disabilities. The purpose of this applied clinical project (ACP) was to critically evaluate the existing research spotlighting mindfulness and self-care to further develop a self-care workshop for parents and caregivers of children with developmental disabilities.
