Abstract
The open access movement has been growing and permeating the academic community for many years. Often when discussing Open Access, more focus is placed on funding – the opportunities, where to find it, and the difficulties associated with capturing it. While funding is certainly an important topic within the Open Access movement, too often the actual sharing benefits of Open Access are being overlooked. What happens after a paper is published under an Open Access model? Just how much control do authors have over where their research is distributed? Do authors really have the power to influence indexing and metrics? Not only does this presentation address these questions, but we also share insights on the flexible options that many publishers offer to authors where research currently published behind paywalls can be easily and affordably converted to Open Access at any time.
