Description
Brother of the late noted architect August Schildbach,
Peter Schildbach has become known for his ceramic art, having begun working in the medium during high school. Before relocating to Florida, Schildbach taught ceramics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He would later run an art studio in Alexandria, Virginia where he expanded his work to include porcelain and stoneware and would exhibit his sculptures throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. From 2008–2009 Schildbach was selected by the Association for Biblical Research in collaboration with the Israel Antiquities Authority to reconstruct ancient pottery from an archaeological excavation site in Israel dating more than 4,000 years. Schildbach’s work has been featured in Art Basel Miami Beach and is included in the permanent collection of the Wilzig Museum in Miami Beach.
This piece, Hands Across The World (2024), served as the conceptual reference for a forthcoming large scale public art sculptural being commissioned for a hospital in the Sebring area. The artwork concept was developed in collaboration with Cuban painter Marlene Marrero, a frequent artistic collaborator of Schildbach. The piece depicts a multicultural representation of outstretched arms from various parts of the earth joining at the center in a message of unity and healing.
