In the early 1960’s five local businessmen frequently met for breakfast in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. They had a dream to create an educational experience that started from preschool age and continued to the graduate level and beyond. These men called themselves the “Oatmeal Club” and included: Myron Ashmore, Joe B. Rushing, Jack Hines, Stuart Synnestvedt and Charles Foreman. This group later expanded to include influential businessmen and entrepreneurs in Broward County and further expanded to include many of the original Board of Trustees of Nova Southeastern University. Other early influential members of Nova University included Charles and Hamilton Foreman, Tinsley Ellis, Jim Farquhar and Abe Fischler.
