Description
The Gunston Hall (LSD 44) is the 4th Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship and the second U.S. Navy ship to be named for Gunston Hall, the Mason Neck, Virginia estate of George Mason, one of Virginia's outstanding Revolutionary figures, and "Father of the Bill of Rights." The keel was laid down by the Avondale Industries in New Orleans, La., on May 26, 1986; The ship was christened and launched on June 27, 1987. uscarriers.net
