Brief Bio / Description of Interviewee
“I had a former old name which was Chao-Hsiung, which was very confusing to people so I changed to Alan. I came from Taiwan. When I was in Taiwan, my undergrad major was American literature. The very first time I came to the state was in my late 20s. I came to FSU to get a master degree in international relations. It was very difficult for me to find a job at that time because I was an international student, so I went back to my birth country, Taiwan. I was an assistant to a legislator for about two years. I then came back to the states for a nursing program and finished my associate degree in nursing in 2015. I worked in different places, different facilities in the following years. I worked in a LTAC facility for five years, took care of very sick patients. A lot of patients were in comatose or immobile. In my last two years of my nursing career, I changed to another hospital. I worked in the med-surg, cardiac, and oncology units. I jumped a lot, jumped from literature to political science to nursing and here I am.”
