Abstract

My capstone experience was completed at CORE Health Company in Riverside, California under a privately owned home health care (HHC) staffing company. CORE Health provide in-home Occupational therapy (OT) and physical therapy (PT) services for the adult and the older adult (ages 65 and over) population. Clients under private insurance, Medicare, hospice, or workers compensation can qualify to receive services. CORE Health proudly serves the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. My site mentor for this capstone experience was Afshin Juybari, founder CEO of CORE Health and faculty mentor is Christina Kane, Ed. D., MS, OTR/L. I explored the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and selected two focus areas that would advance my skillset and services for the HHC population. The two focus areas I desired to pursue included administration and program development. During my 16-week experience under administration, I assisted in the daily administrative responsibilities of running a HHC staffing company for the agency. This entail operating the company’s electronic medical records system, streamlining communication between the agencies and clinicians, as well as conducting interviews. As for program development, my culminating project consisted of developing and implementing an onboarding process for OT practitioners and assisted in addressing clinician needs to meet company standards.
