Gait Analysis in the 19th Century: Motion Brought To Light

Abstract

This historical review explores the roots of biomechanics, originating from pioneering work in human locomotion during the nineteenth century. The project was undertaken in order to identify the eminent investigators during this time period, describe their methods, and understand their motives. In particular, examining the evolution of gait analysis in the context of coincident scientific discoveries and philosophic beliefs contributes to a richer understanding of current theories and technology.
