Abstract
In the previous issue, I stated an intention to set aside the theme editorials. However, the news reports continue to address aspects of college education, so I shall continue to do so as well. Dr. Sylvia Charp, my mentor par-excellence, reminded me often that it is my duty to write about the valuable lessons learned in half a century. This editorial was triggered by a bulleted remark in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in an article titled “Colleges Don’t Buy Happiness,” written by Douglas Belkin: “Meaningful ties with professors or mentors had the highest correlation with well-being after graduation.”
