Executive Summary

This strategic research project was designed to provide potential solutions to address the importance of transformational leadership during organizational change events. Transformational leaders are uniquely positioned to inspire their teams to build trust in and alignment towards a common mission, vison, and long-term strategic goals, which directly impact business results.

A Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis was used to identify a common theme within the organization which served as a catalyst for the development of solutions to address the needs of facing near constant change. The four potential solutions include (a) the establishment of a change management department, (b) the building of a change culture and employee value proposition, (c) the development of a transformational leadership behavior training program, and (d) the creation of a comprehensive long-term strategic plan. These four solutions were selected because each has the potential to have an impact on the long-term sustainability of the company.

Following an analysis of the pros, cons, and barriers to success for each solution, the one selected to address the problem was the development of a transformational leadership behavior training program. This selected solution led to two potential strategies, which included the development of an internal program using current resources or a structured collaboration with an external partner. Through the qualitative strategic plan matrix, which guided the decision-making process to select the best strategy, collaborating with an external partner was chosen as the best option. Significant research was identified to support the strategy selection and projected organizational impact. Finally, a comprehensive action plan outlining key deliverables to support the successful execution of the strategy was created to facilitate program implementation and organizational adoption.
