Executive Summary
From the review conducted and the subsequent rating of the various weaknesses, poor student retention has been identified as the key challenge that Clayton County Public Schools is facing. The scope, significance, and rationale for investigating the problem are outlined, leading to a well-defined problem statement. Possible solutions include (a) community involvement, (b) using student data to track performance, (c) increasing investment in student support services, and (d) enhancing school climate and culture. These solutions are evaluated based on advantages and disadvantages, leading to the selection of the most appropriate solution: community involvement.
The steps taken include the following: (a) conducting a critical analysis of the organization, (b) identifying potential gaps or areas for growth and conducting a strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats analysis, internal factor evaluation, and external factor evaluation; (c) synthesizing literature related to the research problem; (d) researching and evaluating possible solutions, including community involvement; (e) using student data to track performance and address warning signs; (f) increasing investment in student support services; (g) enhancing school climate and culture; (h) selecting the most appropriate solution; (i) developing strategies to accomplish the selected solution, including handling the school from a socialization context and valuing community involvement; (j) evaluating the strategies using the Quantitative Strategic Plan Matrix and internal and external factor evaluation; and (k) developing an action plan. The two strategies identified are (a) handling the school from a socialization context and (b) valuing community involvement. I chose valuing community involvement as the preferred strategy in the research.
To increase student retention rates in Clayton County Public Schools, implementing culturally responsive teaching, fostering a sense of belonging, providing supportive resources, fostering a positive school climate, and strengthening family and community partnerships are recommended strategies. These measures will create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students, particularly minority ones. Prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential for student success.
