Executive Summary
This strategic research project was designed to highlight workforce development in a large southern state and its impact on students, educators, and community developers particularly in underserved rural areas. The ever-increasing demand to manufacture and build in the United States with the current administration has propelled the nation’s education institutions to increase, advance, or add career and technical education programs. This work is designed to create a pipeline of skilled technicians to work in highly technical careers that do not require 4-year degrees. Community and state colleges have the opportunity and grant funding to develop relevant programs to train and certify students in geographic areas in which they live.
The proposed solution is to increase career and technical education programs by aligning institutions with industry demands that provide industry recognized certifications and Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement funding. This work is designed to allow stakeholders to create a pipeline of skilled technicians that entice manufacturing companies to build in areas where they have a direct line of talent.
