Executive Summary

This strategic research project was designed to provide a thorough analysis of an educational technology company. This organization has existed in the educational environment for over 30 years. A SWOT analysis was conducted to identify the organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The purpose was to aid in strategically establishing next steps towards increasing sustainability and growth. Using a QSPM, these factors were explored in-depth. Weights and attractiveness scores were given to determine the most appropriate solution for this establishment. Despite a higher factor score for the internal areas noted, the focus for the organization centered on the external factor: federal and state budget cuts. Federal and state budget cuts significantly impact schools and districts in their ability to purchase adequate resources for their K-12 educational settings. This problem is a detriment to our customers. The decrease in funding sources affects schools’ purchasing of long-held products and resources from my organization.

The most attractive solution to this problem is to create a financial literacy session to support administrators in the school setting. Being financially sound during diminished funding sources can be a welcome solution. The research overwhelmingly states the importance of leader development. An organization’s success and failure depend on effective leadership. Leaders are key to systematically establishing the best course of action for efficiently spending limited funds. This strategic research project demonstrates elaborate steps in setting the stage of the organization, identifying factors, assigning attractiveness scores, and ultimately highlighting a viable solution for this organization.
