Executive Summary

The strategic research project was designed to provide an in-depth evaluation of student support services within a public university and to propose evidence-based solutions that align with institutional goals and workforce demands. The project utilized a strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats analysis, internal and external factor evaluations, and a quantitative strategic planning matrix to determine the most effective strategic intervention. The chosen strategy, Behavioral Skills Training (BST), received the highest overall total attractiveness score, indicating its superior alignment with organizational needs and opportunities. BST was identified as the most impactful approach because it equips students and staff with critical competencies such as communication, adaptability, and teamwork. These skills are increasingly sought after by employers and are essential in navigating the challenges of today’s workforce. Integrating BST into academic and support services provides a dual benefit: enhancing student readiness for employment and improving institutional outcomes such as retention and graduation rates.

A comprehensive action plan was developed, which includes five implementation steps: conducting needs assessments, developing BST modules, piloting the training, scaling full implementation, and evaluating outcomes. A timeline and role-bases responsibilities were assigned to ensure successful execution. The project also addresses potential barriers such as resistance to change and limited resources and offers solutions rooted in change management theory. The study concludes that investing in structures teacher training and BST implementation will not only close existing academic support gaps but also foster a culture of continuous improvement, long-term sustainability, and stakeholder confidence.
